What can I expect on the first visit?Your first visit, know as the initial consultation comprises of a thorough medical history, physical examination, digital posture analysis and first treatment (provided you are a candidate for care). The goal of this appointment is for us to get to know you. This includes us learning about the physical, emotional and nutritional stresses your body has been through up until this point. The physical examination allows us to perform a variety of neurological, orthopaedic and functional tests to identify the cause/causes of your body complaints and establish a base line. At this stage the digital posture analysis involves us take two photos - one from face on and another side on (this will get lined up at a later date ready for the second appointment). Your first treatment will involve a gentle assessment and adjustment of your spine; the aim is for us to create some improvements in your body's pain/function and start the healing process.

How does ABC differ from traditional chiropractic?Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC) is an advanced technique with an unparalleled understanding of how the human body works from a biomechanics perspective. Although it is most commonly used by Chiropractors, it isn't a chiropractic technique per se. Sports Therapists, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Medical Doctors and even some Dentists use ABC. In the UK only a handful of practices specialises in the technique; the New Body Clinic being one of them. The premise of ABC involves four key concepts. 1- The human body can heal itself. 2 - Although it can correct many things it cannot correct them all. 3 - Optimal alignment of the spine is essential for good health. 4 - ABC focuses on treating what the body cannot self correct, so the body can do the rest. ABC is a full-body method which uses specific manipulations and deep spinal stretches to help correct the structural imbalances within the spine and surrounding tissues, allowing the body to rebalance and realign. When the primary cause of the structural problems are fixed, the compensatory twists a body adopts as a coping mechanism is no longer required. ABC practitioners often refer to the term' unwinding' as the body goes through these changes. When a body lets go of old compensation patterns, its twist out of its old position and starts to fully heal from pain and past injuries. Consequently the nervous system and body will function better, restoring it to its optimal self healing capacity. Although traditional Chiropractic shares many of the same concepts as ABC if differs on one key area; what a primary misalignment is. ABC only focuses on correcting the bones which are stuck forwards because there are no muscles or group of muscles behind to pull it back, the rest is left for the body to do. Traditional chiropractic does not take this into account, it focuses on clearing the spine of all misalignments.

Does my insurance cover treatment? At New Body Clinic we have a self-insuring system, which means that we no longer deals directly with medical insurance companies. How much treatment is covered varies a lot and depends entirely on your personal policy with your insurance company. Our policy is for you to pay us for your care first, and we will then provide you with an insurance invoice to give to your insurance company who will reimburse the cost of your treatment directly to you. Most insurance companies will only cover treatment completed by Dr Toni Mills (a registered Chiropractor). You will need talk with your insurance provider directly to see whether they will: Cover your care. Require a GP referral before approving you care.

Is it painful? At New Body Clinic the techniques we use are generally very gentle and adaptable to suit individual needs. Most people find they experience some level of immediate relief the day of treatment and nothing at all. However some people may experience some initial soreness, particularly after the first few sessions as the body begins to change/adapt. This is most negative side effect you should expect to feel; general soreness or achiness. It will normally disperse within the first 24- 48 hours, and we will give you after care advice after your treatment session.

Is it safe?Chiropractic and ABC are widely recognised as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although they have an excellent safety record, and your treatment is carried out by a fully qualified and competent Practitioner, no healthcare treatment is completely free of adverse side effects. The risks associated with care are very small and will be discussed with you before any treatment commences.

What happens if we cannot help? Before treatment starts, you will experience an extensive initial consultation at New Body Clinic. If you are offered treatment based on those findings it's because we believe you are a good candidate for care and can expect great results. We will do everything we can to help you reach your goals. However in the event that we feel we can no longer support you in reaching your goals, we will make the appropriate referral, and help you to find the right person to correct your problem.

Will I need an MRI or X-ray?The practitioner will only order X-rays or MRIs if they are medically necessary. After your initial consultation, if the practitioner determines that further imaging is needed to confirm a diagnosis, they will have a discussion with you and provide a referral accordingly. Please inform us if you have had any previous imaging and bring this information to your appointment, as it can greatly assist in evaluating your case.
